Each December, we prepare for Christ’s birth through the lighting of the Advent candles and decorating the Christmas tree. Each year we also look forward to the Children’s Christmas Program and the Christmas Cantata sung by the Chancel Choir.
On Christmas Eve, join us for our Family Service at 5:00 pm, which includes activities specifically geared towards children, and at 11:00 pm for a traditional service of Lessons and Carols. Both services include Holy Communion and end with candle lighting.
We begin the season of Lent with reflection on scripture, celebrate Holy Communion and offer the imposition of ashes on the forehead for those who would like to begin the season with this traditional sign of repentance. We gather in the Ziercher room at 7:00 pm.
Our observance of Holy Week differs from year to year. Some years, we’ve held a Maundy Thursday foot washing service, while at other times we’ve gathered for a Seder for Maundy Thursday, a simplified reenactment of the ceremonial Passover meal that Jesus shared with his disciples on the night he instituted the Lord’s Supper. Some years we’ve partnered with other local congregations for a Tenebrae service on Good Friday; other years the sanctuary has been open for prayer.
On Easter Sunday we come together to celebrate the Festival Service of the Resurrection and Holy Communion. On this joyous occasion, the choir sings and the chancel is decorated with Easter flowers. Children are invited to remain in worship so families can enjoy the entirety of the Easter Service together.
One Sunday each November we observe a Memorial Sunday or “Totenfest.” On this day, during worship, we provide a time to remember those who have entered life eternal in this past year. Those who wish are invited to light a candle as a visible sign of our remembrance of those who have gone before us as a sign of our faith and trust that new life is promised by Jesus, who is both the Resurrection and the Life and the Light of the World.
On a Sunday in late spring or early summer we gather outside on the church grounds for worship. After worship we break out the fried chicken and fixings and enjoy a picnic together.
